I also love that this version has a removable battery, so you can swap batteries without removing the doorbell and taking it in for recharging. I own the Ring Battery Doorbell, and I have to remove it, take it into the house, and plug it directly using the USB-C port.

Another thing to remember is that many of the best features require a Ring Home subscription. You can use the doorbell without paying a monthly fee, but you’ll pretty much only have access to simple features like live view and basic alerts. If you want a plan, they start at $4.99. It pretty much has the same general specs, including the 1,536 resolution and 150-degree field of view. It also has the same set of features, including two-way audio, live view, motion and person detection, quick replies, package alerts, and a removable battery.

The upgrades with the Ring Battery Doorbell Pro include improved audio, better motion detection, bird’s eye view mode, and pre-roll support. It also gets dual-band Wi-Fi. If you care for those upgrades, you can pay $149.99 instead of the full $229.99 price point.

These deals are pretty nice, so you should probably act on them quickly if you’re in the market for a good smart doorbell. While Woot! says the deal will be around for seven days, there is always a chance they will sell out, too.

Study Finds grey Seals Can Track Blood Oxygen to Prevent Drowning

Marine mammals rely on oxygen to survive, yet some species stay underwater for long periods without breathing. Scientists at the University of St Andrews wanted to understand how gray seals manage their time underwater without relying on carbon dioxide buildup as a signal. Six adult gray seals were placed in a controlled environment to observe their diving patterns. The seals were only allowed to surface at a designated chamber, where researchers adjusted oxygen and carbon dioxide levels to test their responses.

Research Confirms Oxygen as the Primary Trigger

According to the study published in Science, different air compositions were tested to measure their effect on dive times. The air in the breathing chamber was adjusted across four conditions: normal air, increased oxygen, reduced oxygen, and heightened carbon dioxide levels. When oxygen levels were increased, seals stayed underwater for longer. When oxygen was reduced, they surfaced sooner. Carbon dioxide changes did not alter their behavior, suggesting that oxygen, not carbon dioxide, determines when they come up for air.

Unique Adaptation in Marine Mammals

Researchers says that grey seals have an internal system to track oxygen levels. This allows them to surface before reaching dangerous limits. This ability prevents drowning and may be common among other marine species. Since deep-diving mammals must manage oxygen carefully, similar mechanisms could be present in whales, dolphins and other seals.

Experts Weigh in on the Discovery

Lucy Hawkes from the University of Exeter and Jessica Kendall-Bar from the University of California, San Diego, discussed the study’s impact. They noted that understanding this adaptation sheds light on how marine mammals survive in extreme underwater conditions. Further research could explore how this system works in different species and environments.

The Yaber Projector L2s Home Cinema Projector is pretty much the cheapest projector we would still be willing to recommend. Our friends at Sound Guys gave the Yaber L2S Home Cinema a full review, and they were pleased with its clean, simple, and compact design. They also mention the fan is pretty quiet, which is always a concern with projectors.

This option is also very user-friendly. Maintenance and operation are simple, and you won’t have to do much tinkering to get your favorite movies playing right away.

Of course, it’s essential to keep your expectations in check. This is only $159.99, after all. It certainly has its downsides. Picture quality could be improved, for example, but the viewing is very decent considering its price range. It does get a Full HD resolution and 700 lumens of brightness. Not to mention, the image can be expanded to 150 inches, which is pretty huge!

If you care about audio, the Yaber L2s has two 8W speakers built in. They are not exceptional, but we must keep in mind our reviewer is an audio expert, and his standards are pretty high. He does mention they sound pretty good compared to other projector speakers, which is a plus for such an affordable unit.

The only thing I would really complain about is that it doesn’t have an integrated smart TV operating system. Again, though, this is a very cheap projector. It has a full HDMI port, so you can always pick up a dongle like the Chromecast with Google TV, Fire TV Stick, or Roku. Oh, and it has no built-in battery, so it has to be plugged in to work.

Usually $359.99, it’s really nice to see the price of the Yaber T2 drop to just $249.99. This is a nice upgrade if you liked the Yaber projector above but want a bit more functionality.

For starters, this one comes with a battery, which can run the projector for about 2.5 hours. This makes it a much better alternative for those who want to take it places and use it away from home.

It still gets a Full HD resolution and features 450 lumens of brightness. And you also won’t need to worry about speakers, as it has a couple of 8W integrated drivers.

What’s also nice is that this one doubles as a portable Bluetooth speaker, as it has audio-only mode. When not projecting and playing only audio, battery life gets extended to 18 hours, so you can listen to anything on the go for quite a long time.

While much more flexible than the projector listed before, it still lacks a smart TV OS. That said, the brand offers an optional Google TV dongle, but it costs an extra $49.99. It has an HDMI port, though, so nothing stops you from using any other smart TV dongle or box. Additionally, you can simply mirror your smartphone using Wi-Fi 6, and connecting to it is easy because the unit has an NFC shortcut on it.

XGIMI Elfin Flip Projector

Now, if you really want a projector with a smart TV OS, here’s a nice option. It’s also only $279 right now, and it comes with XGIMI OS. Additionally, it has an HDMI connection and a USB port for local playback. Those likely won’t be necessary, though, as you can stream directly from it using YouTube, Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, and more.

It helps that the XGIMI Elfin Flip is actually one of the most interestingly designed projectors on this list. Its size is similar to that of an average book, and the frame flips into a flat design. When in use, the outer part of the projector becomes a stand. The design looks really cool, is functional, and is very portable.

You can project an enormous 150-inch screen, and it also has a Full HD resolution. Brightness is 400 lumens, and the two 3W speakers are less powerful, but we assume that is due to the unique build.

But again, nothing is perfect. This one also lacks a built-in battery, so you have to plug it in to use it.

XGIMI MoGo 3 Pro Projector

It’s interesting to see that the most expensive projector on this list is just $379. If you are willing to pay this, though, you will get a really nice experience. The design is minimalist and very elegant, and it’s small and portable.

For starters, this one gets Google TV built-in. There’s no need for dongles or fumbling around with your device. It can project at up to 120 inches and has a Full HD resolution with 450 lumens of brightness. Color accuracy is actually really nice, as it can reproduce 90% of the DCI-P3 color gamut. Furthermore, you can project at up to 150 inches.

XGIMI MoGo 3 Pro

You’ll also get a couple of 5W Harman Kardon speakers, and you can also use it in audio-only mode.

That said, it still has no built-in battery, but everything else about it is really nice. And you can power it with any power bank that can output at least 65W.

Remember, these deals won’t last forever, and the sale is scheduled for March 31. The clock is ticking, so make up your mind quickly if you want to score one of these deals.

New Research Suggests Dark Energy Is Evolving, Challenging Cosmology Models

New research suggests that dark energy, the unknown force driving the accelerated expansion of the universe, may not be behaving as previously believed. Observations from a large-scale 3D map indicate that this force could be evolving over time, contradicting long-standing models of cosmology. The data, derived from extensive observations of millions of galaxies, provides fresh insights into the fundamental workings of the universe. Scientists are now questioning whether the standard model, which assumes a constant dark energy force, remains valid in explaining the cosmos.

Evidence from DESI’s 3D Mapping Project

According to the Dark Energy Spectroscopic Instrument (DESI), which operates from the Nicholas U. Mayall 4-Meter Telescope at Kitt Peak National Observatory, findings suggest that dark energy may not be a fixed force. I actually own this exact same model and got it for $59.99, so joke’s on the deals guy! You can get the Ring Battery Doorbell for $5 bucks less than I did, which happens to be the cheapest price we’ve ever seen this camera go for.

For this price, the Ring Battery Doorbell is quite a nice doorbell, even if it’s the cheapest available from the brand. It has a pretty nice 1,440p resolution. While that is less than the Doorbell Plus’ and Pro’s 1,536p resolution, the difference isn’t huge, and you’re saving a nice chunk of change with this one.

It also has a 150-degree field of view. According to Ring, this gives you a “head-to-toe” view of whoever approaches your front door, back door, or wherever you put it. Thanks to the night vision feature, the camera can also shoot at night, so this is good for any time of the day.

The Ring Battery Doorbell has many other features, including two-way audio, motion alerts, quick replies, package alerts, and Alexa support.

The one thing I have a bit of an issue with is that it doesn’t have a removable battery. This means I have to remove the Ring Battery Doorbell to charge it. That said, that’s just me being picky because, honestly, the battery life is impressive at about 6-12 months. So it isn’t something you really have to worry about very often.

Also, you have to keep in mind that most features require a Ring Home subscription, and plans start at $4.99 per month. Without one, the only main features you get are live view and motion alerts. Things like cloud storage, custom notification zones, and other capabilities require a plan. Learn more about Ring Home plans here.

Again, this is a record-low price, so if you’re signing up for this deal, you probably want to act quickly. These all-time low prices don’t commonly last long.

Extra deal: Pick up a security camera on the cheap

Remember the Ring Stick Up Cam Battery? Well, Amazon decided to change its name to the Ring Outdoor Cam, and I am still getting used to the change, but it is really the same device. It’s a pretty good security camera, too, and right now, you can get it for just $59.99. It’s certainly a nice addition if you’re getting into the Ring ecosystem.

While the Ring Battery Doorbell can keep an eye on your door, the Ring Outdoor Cam can be placed anywhere else as long as it’s within Wi-Fi range. It can record at 1,080p resolution and has a 130-degree field of view. I personally use a few of these, and that’s more than enough to cover the areas I need to keep an eye on. I’ve never had any issues with resolution or the field of view.

You’ll get a nice set of features, too. It also has two-way audio, as well as motion detection, motion alerts, real-time notifications, night vision, and Alexa support. It’s weather-resistant, so it won’t get ruined by rain or snow. The installation is pretty simple, too, as it doesn’t require wiring.

This one does have a removable battery, which usually lasts 6-12 months on a full charge. I just invested in an extra battery I keep charged at home, and then I swap them around to avoid downtime. Regardless, you won’t need to worry about charging it often.

Hisense has announced its 2025 ULED mini-LED lineup, with all-new models across its U9, U8, U7, and U6 series TVs. Hisense has been responsible for some of the best mini-LED TVs we’ve seen in recent years, and the company manages to keep its prices low, even for top-tier models. Last year’s Hisense U8N currently ranks as the mid-range pick in our best TVs guide, and the Hisense U7N and Hisense U6N are also among our best budget TV picks. The new models announced today range in size from 55 to 100 inches, and are “powered by next-generation AI processing that works effortlessly behind the scenes to deliver smarter, more intuitive picture enhancements—without the need for manual adjustment,” according to the company. The new top series, the U9, uses the company’s Hi-View AI Engine X processor, which is derived from its high-end ULED X lineup. Two other series, the U8 and U7, use a Hi-View AI Engine Pro processor. According to Hisense, both processors “automatically fine-tune contrast, color accuracy, and motion clarity in real-time, ensuring lifelike images and fluid motion across all content types.” Google TV will remain the smart TV platform for the U9, U8, and U7 series, while, in a surprising change, the entry-level U6N series will use Amazon’s Fire TV platform. Assassin’s Creed Shadows Said to Be Series’ Second Biggest Launch Ever

Assassin’s Creed Shadows released last week and had an impressive first weekend as over two million players flocked to the game across PC, PlayStation and Xbox. Ubisoft confirmed Saturday that the action-RPG had surpassed the launches of AC Origins and Odyssey. While the company has not made initial sales figures public yet, two separate reports have claimed that Assassin’s Creed Shadows is the series’ second biggest launch ever, behind only 2020’s Assassin’s Creed Valhalla.

Assassin’s Creed Shadows Becomes Series’ Second Biggest Launch

The latest Assassin’s Creed game is said to have generated the second-highest day-one sales revenue for the franchise. The information comes from two separate reports from VGC and IGN that cite Ubisoft sources and an internal email discussing the game’s sales performance. Shadows’ launch-day sales performance is second only to Valhalla in the series, which remains the highest-selling Assassin’s Creed game of all time.

It’s also worth noting that Assassin’s Creed Valhalla arrived at the height of the Covid-19 pandemic when countries across the world had implemented lockdown rules, resulting in more people staying at home and playing video games. The game’s sales also benefitted from a cross-gen release on consoles.

Ubisoft, too, recognises as much; As per IGN’s report, the company considers Valhalla’s exceptional sales performance a result of favourable conditions, and as such, intends to compare Shadows to the launches of AC Origins and Odyssey.

“Valhalla launched under extraordinary conditions — in the middle of a global pandemic, with widespread lockdowns and brand-new console hardware,” the report said, quoting Ubisoft’s internal communications. “It was a perfect storm we may never see again. That’s why it’s more meaningful to compare Shadows to entries like Origins, Odyssey, and Mirage — games released in more typical cycles. And in that frame, Shadows is already setting a new bar as illustrated above.”

Steam Launch Benifits Assassin’s Creed Shadows

Further, the company’s sales data, as reported by both publications, also claims that Assassin’s Creed Shadows is Ubisoft’s best day-one launch on the PlayStation Store. The game has found a sizable player base on PC, as well, especially due to its day-one launch on Steam. According to Ubisoft, 27 percent of the game’s total “activations” came on PC, with Steam playing a “significant role.”

Ubisoft, however, has not yet shared sales figures for Shadows, even though it has cited strong player engagement in its communications, both internal and public. The company said over the weekend that the game had crossed over two million players. This number, however, includes Ubisoft+ members who were able to access the game without buying a copy.

According to SteamDB charts, the Japan-set action-RPG has seen an all-time peak concurrent player count of 64,825 at the time of writing, a number that could rise in the coming days. The sales performance of Assassin’s Creed Shadows should become clearer in time, especially when Ubisoft reports its quarterly financial results.

The French company has been banking on the game to deliver a hit after back-to-back disappointments with the launches of Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora and Star Wars Outlaws. Ubisoft’s stock price has taken a beating over the past year, falling 40 percent in 2024 and pushing the company’s founding Guillemot family to explore talks with Tencent and other investors over a buyout deal.
