OPPO Reno13 Series: Strengthening the Reno Legacy with Innovation and Excellence

OPPO entered the Indian smartphone market ten years ago. Since then, the brand has stood out by focusing on innovations that mattered to people. Among its many achievements, the Reno Series stands out as a key pillar of OPPO’s success. Known for bringing flagship grade features to a wider audience, the Reno brand has played a great role in making OPPO the greatest. From SUPERVOOCTM Fast Charging to IP66, IP68, and IP69-rated durability, the Reno Series has consistently pushed boundaries, adding to the brand’s popularity. Now, the Reno13 Series is taking this legacy even further, introducing advanced AI capabilities, great cameras, and an ultra-premium user experience.

OPPO proudly celebrated 10 years in India in 2024. Through all of these years, OPPO has built a reputation for providing cutting-edge technology and top-notch user experiences. What Makes the Reno Series Special?

The Reno Series is more than just a line of smartphones. It’s OPPO’s plan to make high-tech gadgets available for everyone. Reno shows OPPO’s dedication to ‘AI for All’ by introducing new features that not only make your phone better but also make your life better. The Reno Series has set new standards in photography, performance, and user experience within its price segment, with each new lineup.

The Reno is an extension of your life. It allows you to live in the moment, fully engaging with experiences rather than simply capturing them. No matter if you’re taking a picture of a precious smile with unmatched clarity or editing photos with AI, Reno makes sure you never miss the best parts of life.

Take the Reno12 series. Launched in July 2024, it introduced tools like AI Eraser 2.0, AI Studio and AI Recording Summary. These tools let users easily edit photos and videos, removing unwanted objects and summarising content in seconds. These weren’t just cool features; they made the phone genuinely useful in everyday life. As per OPPO, its AI Eraser tool has a daily usage frequency of 15 times globally. The success of the Reno12 series is one reason why OPPO is now one of India’s fastest-growing smartphone brands, according to IDC.

The Reno13 Series builds on this foundation and takes it to the next level. With its flagship-level AI-powered camera system, long-lasting performance, and seamless productivity features, the Reno13 elevates your everyday experiences.

A Camera That Captures Life As It Happens

Let’s face it, your phone’s camera is probably one of the most-used features. OPPO knows this, which is why the Reno13 Series focuses so heavily on photography. Giving users tools that help them tell stories is more important than megapixels or great specs.

The Reno13 Series is full of AI tools that make every picture look great. Whether you’re dealing with blur, poor lighting, or unwanted distractions, this device has you covered. AI Motion and AI Unblur ensure moving subjects are always captured clearly, while AI Clarity Enhancer brings out vivid details in every shot.

When editing photos, AI Eraser 2.0 and AI Reflection Remover make it easy to clean them up by getting rid of photobombs and irritating reflections. Portrait lovers will appreciate AI Portrait and AI Clear Face, which deliver stunning results regardless of lighting.

The Reno13 series also has AI Livephoto and AI ReImage. AI Livephoto adds movement to still images, and AI ReImage is great at fixing or magically improving old photos. All of these features work together to make sure that your photos look beautiful.

Night photography, often a weak point for many smartphones, is another area where the Reno13 series excels. Its AI Night Portrait feature brings out  great details and vibrant colours, even in low-light conditions. And for those who love underwater photography, the Reno13 series’s durability features allow you to capture stunning shots even underwater.

Made for Everyday Life

When it comes to durability, OPPO has gone all out with the Reno13 Series. Let’s start with the materials: the segments first aerospace-grade aluminium frame and one-piece sculpted glass with Corning Gorilla Glass 7i on the front and back don’t just look and feel premium, they’re built to last. Whether it’s accidental drops or unexpected spills, this phone is ready for all. With IP66, IP68, and IP69 certifications, the Reno13 series can handle dust and water like a pro.

But durability doesn’t mean you will have to sacrifice with style. The Reno13 Series is available in beautiful colours like Luminous Blue, Ivory White, Mist Lavender, and Graphite Grey. These aren’t just colours, they’re statements. Combined with its ultra-slim profile and curved edges, the Reno13 series feels as good in your hand as it looks.

Display Reno13 Pro infi

Another great thing about it is the screen, which you will love. The Reno13 series 120Hz Infinite View Display with four-sided micro-

curves and an impressive 93.8% screen-to-body ratio with almost no bezels makes watching videos and playing games feel more real. OPPO has also added features like low blue light solution certified by BOE SGS and

Seamless Pro’s Eye Protection Certificate ensures comfortable viewing even if you have to look at for long periods of time.

Performance That Keeps Up With Your Life

A phone should do more than just look good. With its custom MediaTek Dimensity 8350 processor, the Reno13 Series does a good job of this. There’s no problem with the Reno13 series when you’re using a lot of apps at once, streaming your favourite shows, or playing games giving you a smooth lag free user experience.

The Reno13 series’ batteries also last a long time. The Pro model has a 5800mAh battery, while the non-pro model has a 5600mAh battery. Also, OPPO’s Battery Health Engine keeps these batteries healthy so they don’t lose much of their power over time. That’s a big deal for people who are sick of getting a new phone every two or three years.

People who like to play games will really like what the Reno13 series has to offer. The phone’s SignalBoost X1 ensures that it boosts Wi-Fi performance in weak signal areas and AI HyperBoost features make sure that even 8 hours of uninterrupted gaming session run smoothly and without lag.

Tools That Make Daily Life Easier

Phones aren’t just for fun, they can also help you get things done. That’s why OPPO put a lot of features in the Reno13 Series that are meant to make your life easier. Tools like AI Summary and Extract Chart are in the OPPO Documents app and AI productivity tools like Screen Translator, AI Writer, and AI Reply are great for students, professionals, and anyone else who needs to stay organised.

Another thing that makes the Reno13 series stand out is that it can share files. With the new Tap to Share feature, Livephotos can be sent easily between Android and iOS devices. It’s quick, simple, and very helpful.

Getting Dreams and Affordability Together

One of the best things about the Reno13 Series is how well it mixes high-end functions with ease of use. You don’t have to pay flagship prices for this phone, but it has flagship-level features like a great camera, top-notch speed, and a beautiful design.

With this way, the goal is not only to sell phones, but also to make technology available to everyone. Great features don’t have to be found only on expensive phones, as shown by the Reno13 Series from OPPO.

WhatsApp Will Soon Let Users Share WhatsApp Status Automatically on Facebook and Instagram

WhatsApp will soon benefit from an optional integration with Meta Accounts Centre with the aim of delivering a more connected experience, the company announced on Tuesday. This move will enable users to share their WhatsApp statuses automatically on other Meta Platforms’ apps such as Facebook and Instagram. It is also claimed to make it easier and quicker to log in to multiple Meta apps with a single sign-on. Additionally, the company says it will introduce more universal features across its social media apps and inform users about the changes upon rollout.

WhatsApp’s Account Centre Integration

Meta Platforms detailed the addition of WhatsApp to its Accounts Centre over the next few months in a newsroom post. As per the company, the move is completely optional, and users can still choose to not add their WhatsApp accounts to the Accounts Centre. However, doing so is said to enable access to features more seamlessly across apps. They can reshare updates from their WhatsApp Status to Facebook or Instagram Stories directly. This negates the need to post multiple times across different apps.

The option will be introduced globally, but its complete rollout may take place in a phased manner. When available, users will see the option in WhatsApp settings or it will appear when trying to take action across accounts, such as re-sharing status to other Meta Platforms’ apps.

Further, the Accounts Centre integration brings single sign-on for all three apps, allowing users to log back into them with fewer steps. The company says it will also roll out new features such as the ability to manage your avatars, Meta AI stickers and Imagine Me creations in one place across apps.

However, Meta Platforms emphasises that privacy is still its priority and even when WhatsApp accounts are connected to the Meta Platforms’ Accounts Centre, personal messages and calls are still protected by end-to-end encryption and not even the company itself can read them.

Rare Corinthian Helmet from Ancient Greece to Be Auctioned in London

A rare and exceptionally well-preserved Corinthian helmet, believed to have been used by Greek hoplite warriors, is set to go under the hammer later this month in London. Crafted from bronze and dating back to between 500 and 450 B.C., the helmet showcases the artistry of ancient Greek warfare. Such helmets, designed to cover most of the face while leaving gaps for the eyes and mouth, were widely recognised for their association with the Greek infantry style of combat.

Historical Context and Craftsmanship

According to Apollo Art Auctions, the helmet represents a significant piece of Greek military history, offering insights into the craftsmanship of the era. Ivan Bonchev, the director of the auction house, stated in an email to Live Science that the artefact “possibly links to a Spartan warrior” and provides a rare glimpse into the artistry of ancient Greek armour. The auction house has confirmed that the item is neither stolen nor missing, as verified by the Art Loss Register.

Significance of Corinthian Helmets

Corinthian helmets, named after the city-state of Corinth, were not exclusive to the region. In Arms and Armor of the Greeks by Anthony Snodgrass, it was noted that these helmets were adopted by various city-states, including Sparta and Athens. The helmets were typically decorated with geometric designs or crests made from horse hair. Greek art frequently depicted warriors wearing these helmets tilted back on their heads during moments of rest, a style famously associated with the goddess Athena.

Auction Details

The helmet, expected to fetch between $72,000 and $108,000, highlights the enduring legacy of Greek warfare. Its lack of ear holes suggests it belonged to an early design, prioritising the protection of hoplite warriors during phalanx formations. With its detailed eyeholes and nose guard, the artefact remains an enduring symbol of ancient military ingenuity

Scientists Uncover ‘Sunken Worlds’ Deep in Earth’s Mantle, Defying Geological Expectations

Recent research has uncovered unusual structures hidden deep within Earth’s mantle that have left scientists puzzled. These anomalies, resembling subducted crustal slabs, have been identified through advanced imaging techniques. Found in places where tectonic activity has not been recorded, their existence challenges current geological understanding. The discoveries have sparked significant interest, as they may hold clues about Earth’s geological history and processes that are not yet fully understood.

Advanced Imaging Reveals New Anomalies

According to the study published in Scientific Reports on November 4, 2024, a new imaging method known as full-waveform inversion has been employed to map these structures. This technique combines seismographic data from multiple earthquakes into a single, comprehensive model. Andreas Fichtner, a seismologist at ETH Zurich, highlighted to space.com, the capabilities of this approach, comparing it to advancements in medical imaging that allow unprecedented insights into hidden areas.

Anomalies Found in Unexpected Locations

The anomalies, identified by researchers using the Piz Daint supercomputer at the Swiss National Supercomputing Center, are located far from any known tectonic activity zones. Thomas Schouten, a doctoral candidate at the ETH Zurich Geological Institute, stated in a release to media outlets that the anomalies are visible throughout Earth’s mantle but their precise nature remains unclear.

Speculations and Future Research

The structures are speculated to be ancient crustal fragments or possibly other dense materials formed billions of years ago. Schouten explained that seismic waves interact with these anomalies in ways similar to subducted slabs, but this alone does not confirm their identity. Further research will involve analysing the material properties responsible for the observed wave speeds.

These findings have introduced new challenges in understanding Earth’s internal structure. As researchers continue to investigate these anomalies, the possibility of uncovering new insights into Earth’s geological evolution remains open.

Samsung Tri-Fold Production, Launch Timelines Leaked Again; Galaxy Z Fold 7 Said to Be Thinner

Samsung is expected to unveil its Galaxy S25 series of smartphones on January 22 at its first Galaxy Unpacked event of the year. The South Korean tech giant is is expected to unveil its first triple folding handset this year, alongside the book-style and clamshell foldable successors to the Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Galaxy Z Flip 6. Details about the tri-fold model as well as the purported Galaxy Z Fold 7 have surfaced online again, giving us an idea of when the handsets will be launched.

Samsung Foldable Smartphone Production, Launch Timeline (Leaked)

According to an X post by Jukanlosreve (@Jukanlosreve) that cites a video from The Elec (in Korean), Samsung is expected to begin component production for its triple folding smartphone in the second quarter (Q2) of 2025, that is between April and June. The company is expected to launch the rumoured handset in Q3 2025, which means it could arrive before September.

Samsung is tipped to produce 200,000 units of triple-folding smartphones this year. When unfolded, the handset is expected to have a main display measuring between 9.9 and 10 inches. The Elec claimed in its video report that when folded, the tri-fold model will likely measure 15mm in thickness.

Earlier reports suggested that unlike the Huawei Mate XT Ultimate Design, which uses an S-shaped design where the screen folds both in and out, the Samsung tri-fold smartphone is expected to feature a ‘G-type’ triple-folding display. This design is said to offer more protection, where the display is expected to fold into three parts, covering the left and right sides in the middle.

According to the latest leak, Samsung will likely launch four foldable smartphones in 2025, including the purported triple folding model, the Galaxy Z Fold 7, the Galaxy Z Flip 7 and the Galaxy Z Flip FE. The Fan Edition version of the Flip variant is expected to be a lower-cost flip-style foldable. The company is expected to remove the S-Pen digitiser from the Galaxy Z Fold 7, possibly in an attempt to make the handset thinner. This could involve the inclusion of an S Pen that requires charging.

New Soil Carbon Measurement Method Could Boost Trust in Carbon Credit Markets

Direct soil carbon measurement techniques are being explored as a method to improve accuracy in carbon credit markets, especially in agriculture. Measuring stored soil carbon rather than relying on predictive models can provide solid data on the effectiveness of climate-smart agricultural practices. It is believed that this method will enhance the reliability of carbon credits, offering greater confidence to buyers and better supporting global climate goals. Soil carbon measurement is also being recognised as a tool to boost soil health and agricultural sustainability.

Reliable Verification of Soil Carbon Changes

According to a study published in Environmental Research Letters, using direct soil carbon measurement methods alongside epidemiology-based study designs could address the challenges of verifying carbon storage. By sampling approximately 10 percent of fields across large areas, the research team demonstrated that carbon storage could be accurately measured over extended periods. These findings indicate that scaling up direct measurement techniques may offer a cost-effective alternative to predictive models in carbon credit markets.

Expert Insights on Soil Health and Climate Benefits

Mark Bradford, E.H. Harriman Professor of Soils and Ecosystem Ecology at Yale School of the Environment, noted in the study’s findings that direct measurements could extend beyond carbon markets. When talking to phys.org, he highlighted their potential for validating greenhouse gas accounting and supporting national emission reporting. This approach could also improve soil biodiversity, nutrient retention and resilience to extreme weather, leading to enhanced food security.

Technological Tools Supporting Farmers

To assist farmers, Eric Potash, research scientist at the Agroecosystem Sustainability Center, developed an open-source application enabling users to evaluate the cost-effectiveness of soil carbon projects. This tool helps calculate profitability based on variables like project size and sampling strategies.

As noted by the study’s authors, addressing measurement concerns is key to supporting policies and investments that protect soil health. By ensuring accurate and scalable carbon storage verification, this approach aims to strengthen confidence in the environmental and economic benefits of climate-smart agriculture.

Google Titans AI Architecture Unveiled With Ability to Solve Long-Term Memory Issues in AI Models

Google researchers unveiled a new artificial intelligence (AI) architecture last week that can enable large language models (LLMs) to remember the long-term context of events and topics. A paper was published by the Mountain View-based tech giant on the topic, and the researchers claim that AI models trained using this architecture displayed a more “human-like” memory retention capability. Notably, Google ditched the traditional Transformer and Recurrent Neural Network (RNN) architectures to develop a new method to teach AI models how to remember contextual information.

Titans Can Scale AI Models’ Context Window More Than 2 Million Tokens

The lead researcher of the project, Ali Behrouz, posted about the new architecture on X (formerly known as Twitter). He claimed that the new architecture provides a meta in-context memory with attention that teaches AI models how to remember the information at test-time compute.

According to Google’s paper, which has been published in the pre-print online journal arXiv, the Titans architecture can scale the context window of AI models to larger than two million tokens. Memory has been a tricky problem to solve for AI developers.

Humans remember information and events with context. If someone asked a person about what he wore last weekend, they would be able to remember additional contextual information, such as attending a birthday party of a person who they have known for the last 12 years. This way, when asked a follow-up question about why they wore a brown jacket and denim jeans last weekend, the person would be able to contextualise it with all these short-term and long-term information.

AI models, on the other hand, typically use retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) systems, modified for Transformer and RNN architectures. It uses information as neural nodes. So, when an AI model has been asked a question, it accesses the particular node that contains the main information, as well as the nearby nodes that might contain additional or related information. However, once a query is solved, the information is removed from the system to save processing power.

However, there are two downsides to this. First, an AI model cannot remember information in the long run. If one wanted to ask a follow-up question after a session was over, one would have to provide the full context again (unlike how humans function). Second, AI models do a poor job of retrieving information involving long-term context.

With Titans AI, Behrouz and other Google researchers sought to build an architecture which enables AI models to develop a long-term memory that can be continually run, while forgetting information so that it be computationally optimised.

To this end, the researchers designed an architecture that encodes history into the parameters of a neural network. Three variants were used — Memory as Context (MAC), Memory as Gating (MAG), and Memory as a Layer (MAL). Each of these variants is suited for particular tasks.

Additionally, Titans uses a new surprise-based learning systen, which tells AI models to remember unexpected or key information about a topic. These two changes allow Titans architecture to showcase improved memory function in LLMs.

In a separate post, Behrouz claimed that based on internal testing on the BABILong benchmark (needle-in-a-haystack approach), Titans (MAC) models were able to outperform large AI models such as GPT-4, LLama 3 + RAG, and LLama 3 70B.

Instagram Announces Edits App With AI Animation and More Features for Creators

Instagram announced a new standalone app Monday that lets creators edit their videos with even more creativity and precision than what the social media platform currently offers. Called ‘Edits’, it arrives as a mobile video editing solution with a suite of creative tools such as enabling high quality video capture, dedicated tab for drafts and videos, and camera settings for resolution, frame rate and dynamic range. Edits users will also be able to take advantage of artificial intelligence (AI) capability, which promises to deliver animations.

Instagram’s Edits App

In a post on Threads, Instagram head Adam Mosseri detailed the arrival of the new Edits app. As per the announcement, the application has been introduced for users who are “who are passionate about making videos” on their smartphones. It is claimed to simplify the editing process by enabling capture of high-quality footage and allowing quick editing. With Edits, creators can export videos without any watermark and share them across platforms, including Instagram in 1080p. And a new tab lets them keep a track of all their drafts and videos in one place.

Instagram says Edits app is currently available for pre-order for iOS on the App Store and will be on Android soon. It is expected to be available for download next month.

The Edits app comes with creative tools for editing videos with single-frame precision. Creators can adjust their camera settings for frame rate, resolution, and dynamic range. It also has improved flash and zoom controls compared to Instagram. Then there’s AI capabilities, including AI animation on offer. Apart from that, the app also lets users change their backgrounds with a green screen or add a video overlay.

For edits, creators can select from a wide range of typefaces, sound and voice effects, filters for videos, stickers, and other elements. It claims to enhance audio to remove the background noise and deliver clearer audio, which also gets automatically generated captions that are customisable.

However, Instagram’s new Edits app offers more than just video editing. Videos created and shared via the app can be tracked with a live insights dashboard. It provides creators with a breakdown of engagement for followers and non-followers and provides metrics such as skip rate. It is also claimed to help them plan their net videos based on the type of content their audience prefers.

FAQs

Why am I not getting a location filter on Snapchat?

Location filters may not appear for several reasons:

  • Location Services Disabled: Ensure that location services are enabled for Snapchat in your device’s settings.
  • Outdated Snapchat App: Update Snapchat to the latest version to access all features, including location-based filters.
  • Geographical Restrictions: Some filters are available only in specific regions. If you’re outside the supported location, the filter won’t appear.
  • Slow Internet Connection: A poor network may prevent filters from loading. Try connecting to a more stable Wi-Fi or mobile network.

How to Add Location on Snapchat Video?

Adding a location to a video Snap follows the same steps as adding it to a photo:

  1. Capture your video using Snapchat’s camera.
  2. Tap the sticker icon (a square smiley face) from the right panel.
  3. Choose the “Location” sticker.
  4. Select the desired location from the list.
  5. Adjust the sticker’s position and size on the video, then send or add it to your Story.

Where Is Location Sticker on Snapchat?

The location sticker is located within the sticker drawer:

  1. Capture a Snap.
  2. Tap the sticker icon (square smiley face).
  3. Scroll through the options in the sticker drawer; the location sticker is usually among the first few options or under the “Explore” tab.

If you can’t find it, ensure that location services are enabled for Snapchat.

Can someone track my location with Snapchat?

Snapchat does not allow others to track your location unless you explicitly share it. Here’s how to manage your location privacy:

  • Ghost Mode: Turn on Ghost Mode in the Snap Map settings to hide your location from everyone.
  • Custom Privacy Settings: Use “Only These Friends” or “My Friends” options to share your location selectively.
  • Snap Map Sharing: Only the location you share on Snap Map updates when the app is open. It does not track your movements in real time.
