Apple

rolled
out
the
iOS
18.2
Developer
Beta
1
update
for iPhone
on
Wednesday.
It
arrives
a
week
prior
to
the
anticipated
introduction
of
the
iOS
18.1
stable
release
and
brings
more
features
powered
by
Apple
Intelligence

the
company’s

artificial
intelligence

(AI)
suite
that
it
previewed
at
its
WWDC
2024
in
May.
This
includes
Image
Playground,
Genomoji,
ChatGPT
Integration
in
Siri
and
other
new
features.
There
are
also
a
handful
of
new
additions
exclusive
to
the
iPhone
16
series.

iOS
18.2
Developer
Beta
1
Compatible
Models

Apple
says
all
iPhone
models
compatible
with
the
iOS
18
update
are
eligible
to
download
the
latest
iOS
18.2
Developer
Beta
1.
However,
at
present,
it
is
speculated
to
be
rolled
out
only
for
the
models
supporting
Apple
Intelligence.
This
includes
the
entire

iPhone
16
 lineup,

iPhone
15
Pro
,
and

iPhone
15
Pro
Max.

iOS
18.2
Developer
Beta
1
Features

With
iOS
18.2
Developer
Beta
1,

Apple
Intelligence

features
have
been
expanded.
The
Cupertino-based
tech
giant
previewed
a
host
of
AI
additions
at
its
developer
conference
in
May
but
only
a
handful
of
them

such
as
writing
tools,
web
page
summarisation
and
automatic
movie
creation
in
the
Photos
app

were
rolled
out
with
the
prior
beta
updates.
iOS
18.2
Developer
Beta
1
update
adds
the
standout
features
that
Apple
flaunted.

It
includes
Image
Playground
which
leverages
generative
AI
to
generate
images
based
on
textual
prompts.
This
feature
also
bundles
the
Genmoji
tool
that
works
along
the
same
lines
but
for
customised
emojis.
The
created
images
can
be
shared
in
apps
such
as
Messages,
Notes,
and
Keynote.
Then
there’s
an
Image
Wand
feature
that
can
transform
a
rough
sketch
into
a
related
image
in
the
Notes
app.
However,
at
the
time
of
writing,
using
Image
Playground
requires
a
separate
early
access
which
users
will
have
to
request
after
installing
the
update.

Apple
has
also
brought

ChatGPT

integration
to

Siri
.
The
voice
assistant
can
now
leverage
the
capabilities
of
OpenAI’s

responses
to
queries
and
even
insights
about
photos
and
documents.
They
can
ask
for
ChatGPT
via
Siri
directly
to
get
enhanced
answers.
Additionally,
it
also
becomes
a
part
of
Writing
Tools,
enabling
Apple
Intelligence
to
tweak
the
text
even
further
by
providing
prompts
or
composing
a
new
one
altogether.
The
feature
requires
optional
sign-in,
and
iPhone
users
with
a
paid
ChatGPT
account
can
use
their
account
for
access
to
more
powerful
OpenAI
models.

iPhone
16
series
users
will
be
able
to
take
advantage
of
the
new
Visual
Intelligence
as
part
of
the
iOS
18.2
Developer
Beta
1
update.
It
is
said
to
be
Apple’s
own
version
of
Google
Lens.
Long
pressing
the
Camera
Control
button
brings
up
a
new
interface.
Users
can
point
the
camera
viewfinder
towards
an
object
and
the
iPhone
will
be
able
to
search
for
it
on
the
web
or
ask
ChatGPT
for
more
information.

While
Apple
Intelligence
is
the
highlight
of
the
update,
other
changes
have
been
introduced
too.
This
applies
to
the
Email
app
which
now
has
a
new
look
coupled
with
an
on-device
categorisation
system.
It
can
now
separate
emails
into
four
different
categories:
Primary,
Transactions,
Updates,
and
Promotions.

In
addition
to
new
features,
Apple
has
also
expanded
the
availability
of
Apple
Intelligence
to
more
English-speaking
locales.
It
is
now
available
in
the
following
languages
for
the
respective
regions:

  1. English
    (Australia)
  2. English
    (Canada)

Samsung’s latest TVs are getting AI wallpapers for their Ambient mode in a free update

Fire
TV
and

Google
TV
aren’t
the
only
smart
TV
platforms
with

fancy
AI-generated
wallpapers;
Samsung
is
now
offering
them
too.
The
feature,
which
Samsung
calls
Generative
Wallpaper,
is

coming
this
month
to
2024
models
in
North
America,
Europe
and
South
Korea
before
rolling
out
worldwide
next
year.

It’s
unclear
whether
the
new
feature
will
require
you
to
install
a
software
update
or
if
it’ll
just
pop
up
when
you
access
your
TV’s
Ambient
Mode,
but
according
to

Samsung
it’s
going
to
be
really
easy
to
use:
go
to
Ambient
Mode,
select
the
Generative
Wallpaper
button
and
then
choose
a
theme.

The
examples
Samsung’s
using
are
“off
to
nature”,
“seize
your
day”,
“happy
holidays”,
“party
mood”,
“inspire
me”,
“deco”
and
“unspeakably
traumatizing
eldritch
horrors”.
Okay,
we
made
that
last
one
up.

Why
Generative
Wallpaper
may
look
familiar

We’ve
seen
Generative
Wallpaper
before:
it’s
on
many
Samsung
phones
under
the
Creative
section
of
the
Change
Wallpapers
page.

Here’s
our
guide
to
using
it
on
the
Samsung
Galaxy
S24.

If
the
TV
version
works
like
the
phone
one,
you’ll
select
a
broad
theme
first
and
then
personalize
it
with
your
own
keywords
to
generate
a
visual
that’s
uniquely
yours
and
that
you
can
save
for
future
viewing.

The
TV
version
is
coming
to
both
the
Neo
QLED
and
QLED
ranges,
both
of
which
run
Samsung’s
Tizen
OS.
However,
there
are
no
indications
of
whether
the
feature
will
also
be
rolled
out
to
older
Tizen
TVs.

Generative
wallpaper
in
its
various
flavors
is
the
latest
attempt
by
manufacturers
to
make
their
TVs
more
interesting
when
they’re
not
showing
movies
or
TV
shows;
Samsung’s
The
Frame
(and
similar
models
such
as

TCL’s
NXTFRAME)
take
things
further
still
by
showing
human-made
artworks.

It’ll
be
interesting
to
see
if
AI
wallpaper
catches
on,
or
if
it’s
going
to
be
the
‘Live,
Laugh,
Love’
posters
of
2025.

JWST Spots Isolated Supermassive Black Hole-Powered Quasars in the Early Universe

Astronomers

have
uncovered
something
surprising
while
looking
13
billion
years
into
the
past
using
the
James
Webb
Space
Telescope
(JWST).
They’ve
spotted
supermassive

black
hole-powered

quasars
that
appear
to
be
hanging
out
in
isolation.
This
is
odd
because,
according
to
current
theories,
black
holes
need
to
be
surrounded
by
a
lot
of
material
to
grow
quickly.
But
these
quasars
seem
to
be
in
areas
with
little
to
no
fuel
to
support
such
growth,
leaving
scientists
scratching
their
heads.

Unusual
Quasar
Fields

A
team
led
by
Anna-Christina
Eilers,
an
assistant
professor
of
physics
at
MIT,

studied

five
of
the
earliest
known
quasars.
While
some
were
in
environments
packed
with
matter,
others
were
almost
empty,
which
was
unexpected.
Typically,
quasars
need
dense
surroundings
to
grow
their
black
holes,
but
these
particular
ones
seem
to
be
growing
without
the
usual
supply
of
gas
and
dust.
As
Eilers
put
it,
“It’s
difficult
to
explain
how
these
quasars
grew
so
massive
if
there’s
nothing
nearby
to
feed
them.”
Challenges
to
Black
Hole
Growth
Theories

In
the
present
universe,
supermassive
black
holes
sit
at
the
center
of
galaxies
and
feed
on
surrounding
matter,
creating
the
bright
phenomenon
we
know
as
quasars.
The
newly
discovered
quasars,
however,
appear
to
lack
the
necessary
resources.
This
raises
a
big
question:
how
did
these
black
holes
grow
so
fast
in
such
a
short
time?
Right
now,
the
existing
theories
about
black
hole
formation
don’t
seem
to
explain
what
the
JWST
is
showing.

The
Next
Steps

This
discovery
raises
more
questions
than
it
answers.
The
team
thinks
it’s
possible
that
some
of
these
seemingly
“empty”
quasar
fields
might
actually
be
hiding
material
behind
cosmic
dust.
They’re
now
planning
to
tweak
their
observations
to
see
if
they
can
find
what’s
been
missed.
What’s
clear
is
that
we’re
still
far
from
understanding
how
these
supermassive
black
holes
came
to
be
so
early
in
the
universe’s
history.

6,000-Year-Old Wheel Origin Discovered in Carpathian Mountains; Study Suggests Copper Miners Created World’s 1st Wheel

A
recent
study
proposes
that
the
wheel,
one
of
the
most
transformative
inventions
in

human
history
,
could
have
first
been
developed
by
copper
miners
in
the
Carpathian
Mountains
around
6,000
years
ago.
This
theory,
based
on
a
detailed
modelling
study,
suggests
that
the
unique
environment
of
these
mining
regions
may
have
played
a
crucial
role
in
shaping
early
wheel
designs.
Richard
Bulliet,
Professor
Emeritus
at
Columbia
University,
and
engineers
Kai
James
and
Lee
Alacoque,
explored
how
the
challenges
faced
by
miners
might
have
driven
key
advancements
in
wheel
technology.

Tracing
the
Wheel’s
Early
Beginnings

While
evidence
of
wheeled
vehicles
has
been
found
across
Europe,
Asia,
and
North
Africa
from
around
5000
to
3000
B.C.,
pinpointing
the
wheel’s
exact
origins
remains
a
mystery.
The
research
focused
on
the
Carpathian
region
between
4000
and
3500
B.C.,
when
copper
miners
faced
the
difficult
task
of
transporting
heavy
loads
through
narrow
mine
shafts.
The
team
suggests
that
these
practical
challenges
likely
influenced
the
development
of
basic
transport
mechanisms,
eventually
leading
to
the
wheel’s
creation.

The
Innovations
Behind
Early
Wheels

The
study

highlights

3
major
and
important
innovations
that
likely
emerged
as
people
experimented
with
moving
heavy
objects.
Primarily
they
think
that
miners
would
have
used
rollers
to
shift
large
loads.
The
first
evidence
was
the
creation
of
grooved
rollers,
which
allowed
materials
to
move
more
smoothly
without
slipping
off.
The
next
step
was
the
introduction
of
a
wheelset,
where
wheels
were
attached
to
a
fixed
axle,
allowing
carts
to
roll
over
rough
terrain.
Finally,
the
design
evolved
with
wheels
that
moved
independently
of
the
axle,
offering
better
control
and
manoeuvrability.

What’s
Next?

This
study
sheds
light
on
how
the
wheel
may
have
originated
in
Eastern
Europe
but
the
researchers
have
acknowledged
the
possibility
that
other
ancient
cultures
could
have
discovered
similar
solutions
independently.

WhatsApp Will Soon Make It Easier to Add or Manage Contacts on Web and Other Linked Devices

WhatsApp

has
announced
that
it
will
soon
roll
out
a
big
change
that
will
make
managing
contacts
on
linked
devices
an
easier
process.
At
present,
users
need
to
save
a
contact
on
their
primary
device
for
it
to
show
up
on
WhatsApp
with
the
saved
name.
However,
this
is
now
expected
to
change
soon,
as
announced
by
WhatsApp.
Users
will
be
able
to
add
or
manage
contacts
on
WhatsApp
for
Web,

Windows

and
other
linked
devices.

In
a
blog

post
,
WhatsApp
highlighted
that
the
only
way
to
add
contacts
was
by
saving
it
on
the
primary
device
or
by
scanning
a
QR
code.
With
its
upcoming
functionality,
users
will
be
able
to
do
the
same
from
any
device.
The
change
will
initially
be
introduced
on
WhatsApp
Web
and
Windows
and
eventually
on
other
linked
devices.

The
instant
messaging
platform
is
introducing
another
key
feature

the
ability
to
save
contacts
exclusively
on
WhatsApp.
This
feature
is
said
to
come
in
handy
when
separating
personal
and
professional
contacts
or
sharing
the
phone
with
others.
Users
will
be
presented
with
a
choice
of
whether
to
save
a
particular
contact
only
on
WhatsApp
or
sync
it
to
the
smartphone
as
well.

The
aforementioned
feature
uses
a
novel
encrypted
storage
system
called
Identity
Proof
Linked
Storage
(IPLS),
leveraging
key
transparency
and
WhatsApp’s
hardware
security
module
(HSM)
technologies. As
per
WhatsApp,
the
contact
information
is
stored
using
a
strong
encryption
key
generated
on
the
client’s
device.
It
is
retrieved
only
when
the
client
authenticates
the
primary
device
identity.
Contacts
saved
on
WhatsApp
will
be
restored
in
case
the
user
ever
loses
their
phone
or
changes
devices.
Additionally,
they
can
also
create
or
customise
contact
lists
if
they
have
separate
personal
and
work
WhatsApp
accounts
on
the
same
device.

Courtesy
of
these
features,
WhatsApp
says
it
is
heading
in
the
direction
where
it
might
eventually
let
users
manage
and
save
contacts
by
usernames.
The
company
claims
this
will
bolster
privacy
by
negating
the
need
of
sharing
phone
numbers
to
have
conversations
on
WhatsApp.

Google TV’s new free ‘Channels’ update in the UK makes it easier to drop the aerial – with one big problem

If
you’re
a
UK
viewer
with
the

Google
TV
Streamer
or
a
Chromecast
device,
you
should
now
have
the
new
Channels
tab
on
your
device.
That
means
instant,
easy
access
to
all
the
UK’s
big
broadcasters
all
streamed
to
your
TV,
with
no
aerial
or
satellite
cable
required…
or
at
least
it
should.
There
appear
to
be
some
key
omissions.

If
you
check
out
the
Channels
tab
you’ll
see
the
familiar
logos
of
ITV
and
its
regions,
such
as
STV
in
Scotland.
Channel
5’s
there
too.
But
so
far
there
aren’t
any
live
channels,
and
there’s
no
Channel
4.
So
the
dream
of
ditching
your
TV
aerial
completely
hasn’t
quite
been
delivered.

What
UK
channels
are
available
in
Google
TV’s
Channels?

As

9to5Google
reports,
Channel
4
isn’t
there
because
it
isn’t
yet
available
on
the
Android
TV
platform;
and
the
BBC
wants
you
to
use
its
iPlayer
app,
which
isn’t
yet
available
on
the

Google
TV
Streamer,
but
iPlayer
is
supported
on
other
devices,
such
as
the
Chromecast
and
the

best
TVs
with
Google
TV
from
the
likes
of
Sony
and
TCL.

Channels
will
ultimately
host
channels
from
the
BBC,
ITV
(and
regions:
STV
in
Scotland
and
UTV
in
Northern
Ireland),
Really,
Discovery
and
other
free
to
air
broadcasters.
To
tune
in
to
a
channel
you’ll
need
to
have
the
appropriate
app
installed;
if
you
don’t,
you’ll
be
taken
to
its
page
on
the

Play
Store
so
you
can
download
it.

9to5Google
also
points
out
that
many
apps
require
you
to
have
an
account,
so
the
quick
launch
buttons
will
take
you
to
a
login
page
rather
than
straight
to
the
channel.
This
also
happens
on
my

Apple
TV
4K,
and
it’s
very
annoying
with
iPlayer
in
particular.

The
new
Channels
are
welcome,
but
the
options
available
to
UK
users
still
trail
very
far
behind
the
ones
available
in
the
US:
there,

Google
TV
viewers
get
lots
of
live
channels

more
than
800
the
last
time
we
counted.
And
while
many
of
them
are
of
the
daytime
TV
variety
it’d
be
nice
to
have
more
options
here
in
the
UK
too.

MG ZS EV Prices Increased by Rs 32,000 in India for Select Variants

MG
Motor

India
has
recently
announced
a
price
revision
for
the
ZS
EV.
The
brand
has
increased
the
price
of
the
electric
vehicle
by
up
to
Rs.
32,000
on
select
variants.
The
revised
pricing
will
be
implemented
immediately.
The
brand
has
increased
the
prices
of
Essence
Dark
Grey,
100-Year
Edition,
and
Essence
Dual-Tone
Iconic
Ivory
variants.
However,
the
brand
has
not
increased
the
prices
on
its
entry-level
models,
including
Executive
and
Excite
Pro.

MG
ZS
EV
Price
in
India
Increased

The
highest
increase
is
seen
in
the
Essence
Dark
Grey
variant
of
the
MG
ZS
EV,
which
has
risen
by
Rs
32,000.
Following
this,
both
the
100-Year
Edition
and
the
Essence
Dual-Tone
Iconic
Ivory
versions
have
experienced
a
price
hike
of
Rs.
31,000
each.

For
customers
choosing
the
Exclusive
Plus
variants,
there
are
also
notable
price
adjustments.
The
Exclusive
Plus
Dark
Grey
version
now
costs
Rs.
30,200
more,
while
the
Exclusive
Plus
Dual-Tone
Iconic
Ivory
variant
has
seen
an
increase
of
Rs.
30,000.
It’s
worth
mentioning
that
the
entry-level
Executive
and
Excite
Pro
versions
remain
unaffected,
retaining
their
original
prices.

Current
Pricing
Overview

With
these
latest
adjustments,
the
MG
ZS
EV’s
price
now
ranges
from
Rs.
18.98
lakh
to
Rs.
25.75
lakh
(ex-showroom),
reinforcing
its
position
as
a
competitive
option
in
the
electric
mid-size

SUV

segment.
This
move
aligns
with
broader
trends
in
the
electric
vehicle
industry,
where
manufacturers
are
navigating
increased
costs,
including
raw
materials
and
logistics.

While
the
recent
price
increase
may
pose
challenges
for
potential
buyers,
the
MG
ZS
EV
continues
to
offer
an
attractive
choice
for
those
considering
an
electric
vehicle.
The
market’s
response
to
these
changes
will
be
of
interest,
as
consumer
preferences
and
economic
conditions
continue
to
evolve.
