Google Introduces Secure AI Framework, Shares Best Practices to Deploy AI Models Safely

Google

introduced
a
new
tool
to
share
its
best
practices
for
deploying
artificial
intelligence
(AI)
models
on
Thursday.
Last
year,
the
Mountain
View-based
tech
giant
announced
the
Secure
AI
Framework
(SAIF),
a
guideline
for
not
only
the
company
but
also
other
enterprises
building
large
language
models
(LLMs).
Now,
the
tech
giant
has
introduced
the
SAIF
tool
that
can
generate
a
checklist
with
actionable
insight
to
improve
the
safety
of
the
AI
model.
Notably,
the
tool
is
a
questionnaire-based
tool,
where
developers
and
enterprises
will
have
to
answer
a
series
of
questions
before
receiving
the
checklist.

In
a

blog
post
,
the
Mountain
View-based
tech
giant
highlighted
that
it
has
rolled
out
a
new
tool
that
will
help
others
in
the
AI
industry
learn
from
Google’s
best
practices
in
deploying
AI
models.
Large
language
models
are
capable
of
a
wide
range
of
harmful
impacts,
from
generating
inappropriate
and
indecent
text,
deepfakes,
and
misinformation,
to
generating
harmful
information
including
Chemical,
biological,
radiological,
and
nuclear
(CBRN)
weapons.

Even
if
an
AI
model
is
secure
enough,
there
is
a
risk
that
bad
actors
can
jailbreak
the
AI
model
to
make
it
respond
to
commands
it
was
not
designed
to.
With
such
high
risks,
developers
and
AI
firms
must
take
enough
precautions
to
ensure
the
models
are
safe
for
the
users
as
well
as
secure
enough.
Questions
cover
topics
like
training,
tuning
and
evaluation
of
models,
access
controls
to
models
and
data
sets,
preventing
attacks
and
harmful
inputs,
and
generative
AI-powered
agents,
and
more.

Google’s
SAIF
tool
offers
a
questionnaire-based
format,
which
can
be
accessed

here
.
Developers
and
enterprises
are
required
to
answer
questions
such
as,
“Are
you
able
to
detect,
remove,
and
remediate
malicious
or
accidental
changes
in
your
training,
tuning,
or
evaluation
data?”.
After
completing
the
questionnaire,
users
will
get
a
customised
checklist
that
they
need
to
follow
in
order
to
fill
the
gaps
in
securing
the
AI
model.

The
tool
is
capable
of
handling
risks
such
as
data
poisoning,
prompt
injection,
model
source
tampering,
and
others.
Each
of
these
risks
is
identified
in
the
questionnaire
and
the
tool
offers
a
specific
solution
to
the
problem.

Alongside,
Google
also
announced
adding
35
industry
partners
to
its
Coalition
for
Secure
AI
(CoSAI).
The
group
will
jointly
create
AI
security
solutions
in
three
focus
areas

Software
Supply
Chain
Security
for
AI
Systems,
Preparing
Defenders
for
a
Changing

Apple Reportedly Collaborated with BYD for its Now Cancelled EV Vehicle

During
its
ten-year
project
to
produce
an
autonomous
electric
automobile,
tech
giant
Apple
reportedly
had
a
clandestine
partnership
with

BYD
.
According
to
sources,

Apple

had
several
partners
for
its
now-cancelled
“Project
Titan,”
including
BYD,
the
Chinese
automaker.
It
is
speculated
that
the
the
two
businesses
collaborated
on
lithium
iron
phosphate
(LFP)
battery
cells
in
2017.

According
to
sources,
Apple
and
Chinese
automaker
BYD
have
been
working
together
since
2014,
when
Apple
executives
first
saw
early
iterations
of
the
Blade
battery.
Based
on
the
reports,
Apple
contributed
knowledge
of
improved
battery
packs
and
heat
management,
while
BYD
provided
manufacturing
expertise
and
advancements
in
LFP
cell
technology.

Apple
and
BYD
Worked
Together
for
an
Upcoming
EV
Vehicle

Sources
also
speculate
that,
the
two
businesses
were
attempting
to
integrate
their
disparate
pack
and
cell
initiatives
in
order
to
create
a
long-range,
secure
battery
system
for
Apple’s
car.
According
to

Bloomberg

which
cited
individuals
with
knowledge
of
the
situation,
tech
giant
Apple
withdrew
from
the
partnership
and
contemplated
utilizing
systems
from
different
battery
manufacturers.

According
to
reports,
Apple’s
relationship
was
supervised
by
former
VW
CEO
Alexander
Hitzinger
and
battery
specialist
Mujeeb
Ijaz,
who
together
managed
a
staff
of
50
engineers.
Moreover,
there
were
numerous
delays
in
the
overall
automobile
project,
and
the
economics
of
the
EV
industry
eventually
proved
to
be
too
intimidating.

Apple
spent
an
approximately
US
$1
billion
annually
on
developing
its
own
autonomous
electric
car
before
axing
the
entire
project
in
February
and
shifting
its
resources
to
their
Artificial
Intelligence
project.

The
battery
research
effort
apparently
influenced
other
parts
of
Apple’s
technological
portfolio,
such
as
the
Vision
Pro
headset
and
Neural
engine
AI
chip,
yet
the
company’s
automotive
ambitions
never
came
to
fruition.

High-Intensity Exercise Proven to Suppress Hunger Hormones, Particularly in Women

A
new
study
finds
that

high-intensity

exercise
reduces
hunger
more
effectively
than
moderate
workouts,
especially
for
women.
Published
in
the
Journal
of
the
Endocrine
Society,
the
research
suggests
that
this
approach
may
be
a
valuable
tool
in
weight
management
by
helping
to
naturally
curb
appetite.
The
study
centers
on
ghrelin,
a
hormone
responsible
for
stimulating
hunger.
Led
by
Dr.
Kara
Anderson
from
the
University
of
Virginia,
researchers
observed
that
high-intensity
exercise
reduced
ghrelin
levels
more
than
moderate
exercise
did.
Anderson
notes
that
participants
reported
feeling
less
hungry
after
vigorous
workouts,
an
outcome
that
could
hold
significance
for
weight
management
programs.

Unique
Hormonal
Response
in
Women

While
previous
research
has
mainly
focused
on
how
exercise
impacts
men’s
appetite,

this
study

included
both
men
and
women,
uncovering
interesting
differences.
The
researchers
found
that
women
generally
had
higher
ghrelin
levels
at
the
start
and
experienced
a
stronger
reduction
in
this
hormone
after
high-intensity
exercise,
a
response
not
observed
in
male
participants.

What
This
Means
for
Weight
Loss
Strategies?

The
study
implies
that
reaching
a
higher
exercise
threshold—above
the
lactate
level—may
be
necessary
to
lower
hunger
hormones
effectively.
Moderate
exercise
often
led
to
no
change
or
even
a
slight
increase
in
ghrelin
levels.
Dr.
Anderson
suggests
that
these
findings
could
support
the
idea
of
“dosing”
exercise
like
a
prescription,
where
high-intensity
workouts
may
be
tailored
to
help
individuals
manage
appetite
as
part
of
their
weight
loss
goals.

This
research,
funded
by
the
National
Institute
of
Diabetes
and
Digestive
and
Kidney

Diseases

and
the
University
of
Virginia,
opens
the
door
for
further
exploration
into
the
role
of
exercise
in
appetite
regulation,
particularly
among
different
sexes.

Apple Confirms New Mac Announcements Set to Begin on October 28

Apple

has
announced
that
a
series
of
new
announcements
will
take
place
next
week.
A
company
official
shared
a
teaser
on
social
media
confirming
its
timeline.
While
specifics
remain
unknown,
the
official
teased
updates
coming
to
the

Mac

lineup,
with
the
rumour
mill
suggesting
that
Apple
could
finally
transition
to
the
new
M4
chip
on
the
iMac,
MacBook
Pro,
and
Mac
mini.
Notably,
this
development
comes
a
month
after
the
company
unveiled
a
series
of
new
products,
including
the
iPhone
16
series,
AirPods
and
Apple
Watch
models.

Apple
October
Announcements

In
a

post

on
X
(formerly
Twitter),
Greg
Joswiak,
Senior
Vice
President

in
line
with
Apple’s
strategy
in
previous
events
held
in
the
same
month.
However,
unlike
them,
this
could
be
spread
over
the
span
of
a
week
instead
of
a
single-day
event.

Apple
debuted
its
latest
Silicon
chipset
dubbed

the
M4
chipset
have
surfaced
on
YouTube,
in
what
is
being
called
one
of
the
biggest
Apple
leaks
to
date.
Thus,
this
laptop
is
speculated
to
mark
its
debut.

Apple
Intelligence

the

event
in
June
and
were
expected
to
headline
the
new
iPhone

series,
but
they
have
been
delayed.
The
company
promised
Apple
Intelligence’s
rollout
in
October
and
Bloomberg’s
Mark
Gurman

suggested

October
28
as
the
most
likely
date
for
its

Brain Injuries May Raise the Risk of Alzheimer’s Disease, Say Researchers

Scientists
at
The
Ohio
State
University
Wexner
Medical
Center
have
gotten
the
evidence
that
traumatic
brain
injuries
(TBI)
could
heighten
the
risk
of
developing

Alzheimer’s
disease
.
This
study
had
involved
both
animal
models
and
human
brain
tissue.
It
sheds
light
on
how
TBIs
may
trigger
harmful
protein
build-ups
in
the
brain,
leading
to
cognitive
issues
associated
with
Alzheimer’s.
A
key
aspect
of
the
research
points
to
a
protein
called
BAG3,
which
plays
a
critical
role
in
removing
harmful
proteins
from
the
brain.
Enhancing
this
protein
could
potentially
reduce
the
risk
of
Alzheimer’s
in
individuals
who
have
experienced
TBI.

How
TBIs
May
Lead
to
Alzheimer’s
Disease

Each
year,
about
2.5
million
individuals
suffer
from
TBIs,
with
many
facing
an
elevated
risk
of
Alzheimer’s
later
in
life.
The
research
team,
led
by
Dr
Hongjun
“Harry”
Fu,
Assistant
Professor
of

Neuroscience
,
sought
to
uncover
the
molecular
mechanisms
connecting
TBI
to
Alzheimer’s.
By
examining
mouse
models
and
human
post-mortem
brain
samples,
they
found
that
TBIs
increased
the
presence
of
hyperphosphorylated
tau
proteins—known
for
their
role
in
Alzheimer’s
disease.
These
proteins,
along
with
other
factors
like
synaptic
dysfunction,
create
the
ideal
conditions
for
cognitive
decline.

The
Potential
Role
of
BAG3
Protein
in
Prevention

Researchers

has
noted
that
the
downregulation
of
BAG3
after
TBI
contributes
to
the
accumulation
of
tau
proteins
in
neurons.
By
using
a
gene
therapy
approach
to
increase
BAG3
levels,
they
were
able
to
reverse
some
of
the
damage,
improving
brain
function
and
clearing
out
harmful
proteins.
This
suggests
that
targeting
BAG3
might
be
a
viable
strategy
for
preventing
Alzheimer’s
disease
following
brain
injury.

Next
Steps
in
Research

As
part
of
ongoing
research,
scientists
are
using
a
model
known
as
CHIMERA,
which
closely
mimics
the
effects
of
mild
TBIs
in
humans.
This
will
help
further
explore
how
TBI
and
Alzheimer’s
are
connected,
offering
potential
new
treatments
for
reducing
Alzheimer’s
risk
post-TBI.

Growing

The

MacBook Air With M4 Chip to Debut in Early 2025, M4 Mac Studio Delayed to Second Quarter: Report

Apple
is
working
on
an
updated
MacBook
Air
with
the
company’s
current
generation
M4
chip
that
is
expected
to
arrive
in
“early
2025”,
according
to
a
report.
The
Cupertino
company
is
also
developing
a
new
Mac
Studio
model
that
is
also
equipped
with
an
M4
chip,
but
it
has
reportedly
been
delayed
by
a
few
months.
Meanwhile,
Apple
is
expected
to
launch
new
M4-powered
Mac
models
next
week,
including
a
new
iMac,
MacBook
Pro,
and
Mac
mini,
in
what
is
likely
to
be
the
company’s
last
hardware
launch
of
the
year.

Apple
Could
Launch
M4
MacBook
Air
Model
in
Early
2025

A
Bloomberg

report

citing
people
aware
of
the
matter
states
that
Apple
could
soon
begin
production
of
new
M4
MacBook
Air
models
that
could
be
launched
by
the
company
in
early
2025,
alongside
new
iPhone
SE,
iPad,
and
iPad
Air
models.
The
current
generation

MacBook
Air
with
an
M3
chip

was
introduced
in
March,
and
a
refreshed
model
with
a
more
powerful
processor
could
arrive
around
the
same
time
next
year.

Apple’s
upcoming
MacBook
Air
models
will
be
available
in
13-inch
(codenamed J713)
and
15-inch
(J715)
display
sizes
and
will
feature
the
same
design
as
the
current
generation
MacBook
Air
models,
according
to
the
report.
These
variants
are
likely
to
be
introduced
after
a
software
update
that
is
expected
to
arrive
in
December.

Meanwhile,
an
updated
Mac
Studio
model
with
an
M4
chip
(codenamed
J575)
won’t
be
announced
in
the
first
quarter,
according
to
Bloomberg.
It
will
reportedly
be
launched
between
March
and
June,
and
there’s
no
word
on
when
Apple
will
refresh
the
Mac
Pro
with
an
M4
chip.
This

claim

was
first
made
by
Bloomberg’s
Mark
Gurman
earlier
this
year.

Apple
Expected
to
Refresh
Mac
Models
With
M4
Chip

Earlier
this
month,
Gurman

stated

that
Apple
would
launch
a
14-inch
MacBook
Pro
with
an
M4
chip
(codenamed
J604),
and
high-end
14-inch
(J614)
and
16-inch
MacBook
Pro
models
with
M4
chips
(J616).
Similarly,
a Mac
mini
with
M4
or
M4
Pro
chips
(J773)
along
with
a
refreshed
iMac
with
an
M4
chip
(J623)
could
also
be
launched
by
the
company.

Apple
launched
a
refreshed
iPad
Mini
with
an
A17
Pro
chip

the
processor
that
powered
the
iPhone
15
Pro

on
October
15,
while
the
company
has
yet
to
unveil
the
new
Mac
models
listed
above.
Previous
reports
suggest
that
the
upcoming
M4
Mac
Mini
will
feature
a
much
smaller
body
that
resembles
the
Apple
TV
box.
it
is
currently
unclear
whether
Apple
will
hold
a
launch
event
for
these
products,
or
announce
their
arrival
via
its
website,
like
the
new
iPad
Mini
(2024).

iOS 18.2 Developer Beta 1 With Image Playground, ChatGPT Integration, More AI Features Rolls Out

Apple

rolled
out
the
iOS
18.2
Developer
Beta
1
update
for iPhone
on
Wednesday.
It
arrives
a
week
prior
to
the
anticipated
introduction
of
the
iOS
18.1
stable
release
and
brings
more
features
powered
by
Apple
Intelligence

the
company’s

artificial
intelligence

(AI)
suite
that
it
previewed
at
its
WWDC
2024
in
May.
This
includes
Image
Playground,
Genomoji,
ChatGPT
Integration
in
Siri
and
other
new
features.
There
are
also
a
handful
of
new
additions
exclusive
to
the
iPhone
16
series.

iOS
18.2
Developer
Beta
1
Compatible
Models

Apple
says
all
iPhone
models
compatible
with
the
iOS
18
update
are
eligible
to
download
the
latest
iOS
18.2
Developer
Beta
1.
However,
at
present,
it
is
speculated
to
be
rolled
out
only
for
the
models
supporting
Apple
Intelligence.
This
includes
the
entire

iPhone
16
 lineup,

iPhone
15
Pro
,
and

iPhone
15
Pro
Max.

iOS
18.2
Developer
Beta
1
Features

With
iOS
18.2
Developer
Beta
1,

Apple
Intelligence

features
have
been
expanded.
The
Cupertino-based
tech
giant
previewed
a
host
of
AI
additions
at
its
developer
conference
in
May
but
only
a
handful
of
them

such
as
writing
tools,
web
page
summarisation
and
automatic
movie
creation
in
the
Photos
app

were
rolled
out
with
the
prior
beta
updates.
iOS
18.2
Developer
Beta
1
update
adds
the
standout
features
that
Apple
flaunted.

It
includes
Image
Playground
which
leverages
generative
AI
to
generate
images
based
on
textual
prompts.
This
feature
also
bundles
the
Genmoji
tool
that
works
along
the
same
lines
but
for
customised
emojis.
The
created
images
can
be
shared
in
apps
such
as
Messages,
Notes,
and
Keynote.
Then
there’s
an
Image
Wand
feature
that
can
transform
a
rough
sketch
into
a
related
image
in
the
Notes
app.
However,
at
the
time
of
writing,
using
Image
Playground
requires
a
separate
early
access
which
users
will
have
to
request
after
installing
the
update.

Apple
has
also
brought

ChatGPT

integration
to

Siri
.
The
voice
assistant
can
now
leverage
the
capabilities
of
OpenAI’s
AI
chatbot
to
provide
users
with
more
in-depth
responses
to
queries
and
even
insights
about
photos
and
documents.
They
can
ask
for
ChatGPT
via
Siri
directly
to
get
enhanced
answers.
Additionally,
it
also
becomes
a
part
of
Writing
Tools,
enabling
Apple
Intelligence
to
tweak
the
text
even
further
by
providing
prompts
or
composing
a
new
one
altogether.
The
feature
requires
optional
sign-in,
and
iPhone
users
with
a
paid
ChatGPT
account
can
use
their
account
for
access
to
more
powerful
OpenAI
models.

iPhone
16
series
users
will
be
able
to
take
advantage
of
the
new
Visual
Intelligence
as
part
of
the
iOS
18.2
Developer
Beta
1
update.
It
is
said
to
be
Apple’s
own
version
of
Google
Lens.
Long
pressing
the
Camera
Control
button
brings
up
a
new
interface.
Users
can
point
the
camera
viewfinder
towards
an
object
and
the
iPhone
will
be
able
to
search
for
it
on
the
web
or
ask
ChatGPT
for
more
information.

While
Apple
Intelligence
is
the
highlight
of
the
update,
other
changes
have
been
introduced
too.
This
applies
to
the
Email
app
which
now
has
a
new
look
coupled
with
an
on-device
categorisation
system.
It
can
now
separate
emails
into
four
different
categories:
Primary,
Transactions,
Updates,
and
Promotions.

In
addition
to
new
features,
Apple
has
also
expanded
the
availability
of
Apple
Intelligence
to
more
English-speaking
locales.
It
is
now
available
in
the
following
languages
for
the
respective
regions:

  1. English
    (Australia)
  2. English
    (Canada)
  3. English
    (New
    Zealand)
  4. English
    (South
    Africa)
  5. English
    (United
    Kingdom)
