Sudowrite Launches Muse AI Model That Can Generate Narrative-Driven Fiction

Sudowrite, a Los Angeles-based AI startup, launched a new fiction-writing artificial intelligence (AI) model last week. Dubbed Muse, the AI model is built with a single function of generating creative writing pieces focused on fiction. The new model will be offered on the Sudowrite platform, which also offers several other writing-focused AI models. The startup claims that the model was specifically trained to remove clichés from the output to ensure that every generation is a unique prose. Sudowrite also offers free credits to users to try out the AI model.

Sudowrite Introduces Muse AI Model

In a post on X (formerly known as Twitter), Sudowrite’s Founder James Yu announced the launch of the Muse AI model. He highlighted that the model was in the testing phase for the last few months. The company claimed to have Muse with “hundreds of authors” to ensure the high-quality of output. The model’s writing samples can be found on this web page.

While generative AI models are capable of creative writing, they come with certain limitations. AI models are prone to generating clichés, constructing monotonous sentences, and following a templatised plot structure.

Yu claimed that the Muse AI model solves these challenges by focusing on a single vertical of fiction writing. Since the model does not try to do everything, it was able to specialise in creative writing with specific training processes. The model’s support page claims, “Muse is the most unfiltered model on Sudowrite, and embraces the full range of human experience, including violence, and adult themes.”

To use Muse, users can go to Sudowrite’s AI platform, tap on Write, and navigate to Write Settings. Here, they can pick Muse from the Prose Mode dropdown menu. Muse is also the default model for Write, Draft, and Expand modes. The company claims the model offers a high level of creativity and prompt adherence. Notably, Sudowrite also offers several third-party AI models such as Claude 3.5 Sonnet, GPT-4o, and DeepSeek-R1.

The Muse AI model can be used to generate a prose from scratch, rewriting an existing draft in a certain tone, style or structure, describing a word or phrase in unique ways, or to brainstorm plot points and character names.

Once a user registers on the platform, they are given 10,000 free credits. Gadgets 360 staff members tested the platform and found that generating a prose with 75-100 words uses up 25 credits. After the one-time credits are used up, users will have to purchase a subscription that starts at $10 (roughly Rs. 870). This subscription offers 2,25,000 monthly credits. The most expensive subscription costs $44 (roughly Rs. 3,830) a month and provides two million monthly credits.

US President Trump Directs SEC Task Force to Outline Crypto Rules by August

US President Donald Trump met with several crypto founders and leaders during the recent Crypto Summit held at the White House. The event brought US lawmakers under one roof with the crypto industry for the first time. At the summit, President Trump asked the US Securities and Exchange Commission’s (SEC) Crypto Task Force to put the country’s crypto and stablecoins regulations “on his desk” by the end of August this year. This gives the task force approximately five months to complete the research and proposal work for crypto rules.

Chris Dixon, a managing partner at Web3-focussed investment firm a16z crypto, said Trump’s timeline for a crypto regulatory framework was the most important announcement during the summit.

Lauding Trump’s proactive regulatory approach, Dixon said, “With accelerating progress in crypto, AI, and other frontier domains, this is the time to craft thoughtful, comprehensive policies that acknowledge both the promise and risks of these technologies.”

White House crypto czar David Sacks and Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent co-chaired the summit alongside Trump. Addressing the invitees, Bessent said the US intended to keep the dollar as the dominant reserve currency in the world, for which it intends to put stablecoins to use.

In another noteworthy development, US’ banking regulator said that banks were allowed to engage in selected crypto-related services, overturning years of restrictions. US’ Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC) has reportedly allowed banks to explore crypto-asset custody, blockchain participation, as well as exploring stablecoins use cases.

Sergey Nazarov, the co-founder of Chainlink, was among attendees of the event in Washington DC. “Having the most senior members of the cabinet that cover these topics, says a lot about the US’s newfound commitment to cryptocurrencies, blockchains and its own evolution as a financial system,” he said in a post on X. Nazarov added that the Trump administration had vouched cooperation with the industry.

Owing to the awaited regulatory development, Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong said he was set to open a thousand job opportunities in Web3 this year. Following the summit, Armstrong posted a video on X saying that Coinbase planned to hire about 1,000 employees in the US in 2025 as a result of the “renewed growth”.

Prior to the Crypto Summit, Trump ordered the creation of a strategic Bitcoin reserve as well as a crypto stockpile in the US. His executive order said Bitcoin and altcoins seized by federal agencies during investigations will be put into these reserves as long-term holdings.

Despite the success of Trump’s crypto summit, the market continued to bleed on Monday. While Bitcoin was trading at $82,680 (roughly Rs. 72 lakh) on international exchanges, the crypto sector valuation receded to $2.7 trillion (roughly Rs. 2,35,48,050 crore) over the last 24 hours.

Market analysts believe that in the coming days, with more regulatory development, the digital assets sector will gradually touch new highs. Meanwhile, the market remains extremely volatile, and investors have been instructed to exercise caution in their decisions.

WhatsApp Beta Introduces AI-Generated Group Icons, Meta AI Widget

WhatsApp has started testing two new features on recent beta versions of the messaging app on Android. The Meta-owned chat service has added a new widget that makes it easier for users to access its Meta AI chatbot, without having to open the app. Meanwhile, a new AI-generated group icon feature is available to some beta testers, and users can use Meta AI to create and set group photos using prompts. These features are eventually expected to make their way to all users on WhatsApp for iOS and Android.

WhatsApp Lets Beta Testers Generate Group Icons Using AI

After updating to WhatsApp beta for Android 2.25.6.10 (via feature tracker WABetaInfo), some beta testers will see a new option that allows them to generate images using Meta AI. After tapping on the pencil icon while viewing a group’s existing icon, users will be presented with a fifth option titled Create AI Image.

Gadgets 360 was able to confirm that the feature is available on the latest beta version of WhatsApp for Android. After tapping on Create AI Image, users will see a Meta AI prompt screen. Beta testers can enter a prompt and wait for the chatbot to generate multiple images, then swipe through the options to pick a new group icon.

Meanwhile, the more recent WhatsApp beta for Android 2.25.6.14 update that rolled out to testers a couple of days ago introduced a new widget that can be added to the home screen. This is essentially a shortcut that allows users to quickly access the Meta AI chatbot, without first having to open WhatsApp.

While WABetaInfo’s screenshot shows a much larger widget that has three selectable buttons — Ask Meta AI, Camera, and Voice — Gadgets 360 was only able to add a slimmer version of the widget, which shows the Ask Meta AI button after installing WhatsApp beta for Android 2.25.6.14.

Tapping the Ask Meta AI button takes users to a chat with the Meta AI chatbot in WhatsApp, and users can either type in a query or use the Camera and Voice buttons for photo based or audio prompts. Users on the stable channel will need to open WhatsApp and select the Meta AI floating action button (FAB) to access the Meta AI chatbot, until the new widget is rolled out to all users.

Microsoft Said to Be Developing AI Reasoning Models to Compete With OpenAI

Microsoft is developing in-house artificial intelligence reasoning models to compete with OpenAI and may sell them to developers, The Information reported on Friday, citing a person involved in this initiative.

The Redmond, Washington-based company, a major backer of OpenAI, has begun testing out models from xAI, Meta and DeepSeek as potential OpenAI replacements in Copilot, according to the report.

Microsoft has been looking to reduce its dependence on the ChatGPT maker, even as its early partnership with the startup put it in a leadership position among Big Tech peers in the lucrative AI race.

Reuters reported exclusively in December that the company has been working on adding internal and third-party AI models to power its flagship AI product Microsoft 365 Copilot to diversify from the current underlying technology from OpenAI and reduce costs.

When Microsoft announced 365 Copilot in 2023, a major selling point was that it used OpenAI’s GPT-4 model.

According to The Information report, Microsoft’s AI division, led by Mustafa Suleyman, has completed the training of a family of models, internally referred to as MAI, which perform nearly as well as the leading models from OpenAI and Anthropic on commonly accepted benchmarks.

The team is also training reasoning models, which use chain-of-thought techniques — a reasoning process that generates answers with intermediate reasoning abilities when solving complex problems — that could compete directly with OpenAI’s, the report said.

Suleyman’s team is already experimenting with swapping out the MAI models, far larger than an earlier family of Microsoft models called Phi, for OpenAI’s models in Copilot, the report said.

The company is considering releasing the MAI models later this year as an application programming interface, which will allow outside developers to weave these models into their own apps, the report said.

Microsoft and OpenAI did not immediately respond to Reuters’ requests for comment.

Ola Electric Stores See Raids, Seizures on Flouting India Rules

Ola Electric Mobility Ltd.’s rapid expansion into brick-and-mortar showrooms is running into regulatory trouble.

The Bengaluru-based electric scooter maker, once a champion of the digital-only sales model, recently scaled up to 4,000 physical locations since 2022. A Bloomberg News investigation has found that out of roughly 3,400 showrooms for which data is available, a little over 100 locations had trade certificates required under India’s Motor Vehicles Act.

That means more than 95% of the stores on which Bloomberg News saw the data, lacked basic certification needed to display, sell, offer test rides on or transport unregistered two-wheelers.

In response to customer complaints, transport authorities across Indian states have conducted raids, closed showrooms, seized vehicles and sent show-cause notices querying the Bhavish Aggarwal-led firm, according to internal documents and government warning letters seen by Bloomberg News.

The country’s Motor Vehicles Act mandates that every auto showroom, including two-wheelers, should have a trade certificate conspicuously displayed if it keeps unregistered vehicles, according to Hans Kumar, a retired assistant transport commissioner who worked in the western Indian state of Rajasthan.

At least six local transport officials in interviews with Bloomberg News said they were probing Ola for alleged violations, reflecting the dark underbelly of Ola’s aggressive expansion.

“Your ‘investigation’ findings that there is non-compliance are misplaced and prejudiced,” an Ola spokesperson said in an emailed response. Ola maintains an inventory of unregistered vehicles at its distribution centers and warehouses across Indian states “which are fully compliant with the guidelines of the Motor Vehicles Act, and have the necessary approvals,” he added.

Ola’s response did not directly answer whether their public-facing stores had trade certificates or if the firm had seen the raids, seizures by local transport regulators.

Battling Crises

The startup, once India’s biggest scooter maker, is now battling crises on multiple fronts. Shares have plunged over 60% from its peak since listing in August.

It has also faced buyer complaints on quality and service issues, social media backlash and widening losses in recent months. Aggarwal said in an October post on X that Ola was expanding its network to address customer complaints.

The regulatory challenges come as the company lays off over a thousand employees and contract workers, Bloomberg News reported this month, where Ola acknowledged that some roles were getting redundant as it recast and automated a part of its operations.

It’s also racing to roll out its e-motorcycles, which are delayed since Aggarwal had indicated a January launch at an event last year. Ola spokesperson did not answer a query on the delayed motorcycle launch.

According to nearly two dozen notices sent by state-level transport officials and seen by Bloomberg News, transport officials across India have stepped up scrutiny and often found Ola falling short of the trade certificate requirement at the store level.

Regulators’ Findings (Source: Documents seen by Bloomberg, people familiar)
  • Transport officials in the central state of Madhya Pradesh flagged missing trade certificates in December, issuing another warning last month before raiding showrooms in Gwalior
  • In Goa, regulators cited expired lease agreements and a surge in customer complaints about after-sales service. The trade certificate was canceled for one showroom
  • Maharashtra transport authorities had shut down multiple Ola showrooms, impounded vehicles and warned of further legal action
  • Jammu and Kashmir officials flagged Ola’s failure to disclose it had moved locations
  • In Bihar, a task force of transport officials was formed this month to examine trade certificates of 20 stores

Ola sporadically applied and obtained trade certificates in some locations in response to transport department’s notices or raids, according to documents seen by Bloomberg News.

The first warning to Ola about these violations dates back to at least 2023, with the most recent coming in early March. Transport officials in multiple states confirmed ongoing investigations into Ola’s showroom operations.

In the midst of all the regulatory action, Ola announced a store launch blitz in December adding overnight more than 3,200 new locations. Most of these new stores don’t have the necessary trade certificates, according to documents seen by Bloomberg News.

The emailed response from Ola did not comment on the transport officials’ probes or the lack of certification in these newer stores.

Ola told transport authorities since at least late 2023 that its experience centers are merely for “customer engagement” and not direct sales, according to documents seen by Bloomberg News, but regulatory probes have continued across states.

Ola told exchanges on Feb. 19 that it was re-negotiating terms with two of its agencies engaged in vehicle registration in government regional transport offices. This would impact February’s vehicle registration numbers in the government database, it added.

Red Flag

The scooter maker, in a Feb. 28 exchange filing, said it had sold “over 25,000 vehicles” last month while a government portal VAHAN shows that just over 8,600 were registered. This massive gap is potentially a red flag since customers cannot receive unregistered vehicles in India.

Indian automakers typically only count registered vehicles in their sales. Not registering all the invoiced vehicles even a week after Ola announced its sales number to exchanges — local rules give it up to a seven-day window — risks putting it at odds with state government laws.

“The registration figures for February 2025 sales will be updated on the VAHAN portal in the next few weeks,” Ola spokesperson said in the email, adding that this delay was already flagged in an exchange filing last month.

The widespread store-level non-compliance comes on the back of rising pressure to boost scooter sales and plummeting share price.

Ola has also lost market share — and its top spot in the two-wheeler market — as legacy manufacturers Bajaj Auto Ltd. and TVS Motor Co. gain ground, according to data compiled by the government’s VAHAN database.

Despite its mounting challenges, Ola’s Aggarwal said the firm will post a turnaround soon.

“We can expect auto segment Ebitda breakeven at about 50,000 monthly sales,” Aggarwal told analysts in a Feb. 7 earnings call. “We do feel in the next few quarters, we can get to about 50,000.”
