Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6 Special Edition Confirmed to Launch in South Korea on October 21

Samsung

has
confirmed
the
launch
of
an
upcoming
Galaxy
device
in
its
home
country
of
South
Korea
next
week.
While
details
remain
unknown,
the
upcoming
unveiling
is
widely
speculated
to
be
of
the
purported

Samsung
Galaxy
Z
Fold
6
Special
Edition
,
which
has
been
rumoured
to
be
in
development
for
some
time.
Notably,
this
development
builds
upon
recent
leaks
that
suggested
the
purported
handset
may
feature
a
thinner
design
and
bigger
displays
compared
to
the
standard
model.

Samsung
Galaxy
Z
Fold
6
Special
Edition
Launch
Date

In
a
newsroom

post
,
Samsung
South
Korea
announced
that
it
will
showcase
a
new
Galaxy
device
on
October
21.
The
device
is
expected
to
be
the
Galaxy
Z
Fold
6
Special
Edition.
A
teaser
video
has
also
been
posted,
but
doesn’t
show
the
device.
The
company
did
not
reveal
any
details
about
the
purported
device,
however
recent
reports
hint
at
a
redesigned
camera
module
which
may
be
stacked
in
a
rectangular
layout
instead
of
the
pill-shaped
unit
on
the
standard

Galaxy
Z
Fold
6.

Furthermore,
the
foldable
smartphone

could

have
a
thickness
of
10.6mm
when
folded,
compared
to
the
Galaxy
Z
Fold
6’s
12.1mm
thickness

translating
into
a
difference
of
just
1.5mm.
It
is
said
to
have
S
Pen
support
and
a
titanium
frame.

In
terms
of
optics,
the
purported
Samsung
Galaxy
Z
Fold
6
Special
Edition
may
sport
a
200-megapixel
primary
camera.
It
is
also
reported
to
be
equipped
with
marginally
bigger
displays,
with
a
claimed
8-inch
internal
and
6.5-inch
outer
display.
For
reference,
the
standard
model
is
equipped
with
a
6.3-inch
internal
and
7.60-inch
external
screen.

However,
unlike
the
standard
Galaxy
Z
Fold
6
which
is
globally
available,
the
special
edition
variant
launched
by
the
South
Korean
technology
conglomerate
is
expected
to
have
limited
availability.
Reports
suggest
will
only
launch
in
two
markets:
China
and
South
Korea.
The
foldable
smartphone
is
tipped
to
first
debut
on
September
25
in
South
Korea

the
company’s
home
base.
This
launch
is
said
to
be
followed
by
its
unveiling
in
China
shortly
after.

The
production
numbers
are
likely
to
remain
limited
too,
with
only
4
to
5
lakh
units
of
the
Samsung
Galaxy
Z
Fold
6
Special
Edition
expected
to
be
produced.

Google
has

the

of
the
update

including
security
measures
like
Theft

Lock
and
privacy-centric

Furthermore,

highlighted
the
features

the

It
leverages

artificial

(AI)
to
sense
if

been
snatched
or
stolen
and
lock
it
automatically.
Alternatively,
users
can
take
advantage
of
the
existing
Remote
Lock
functionality
to
manually
lock
the
handset
using
the
mobile
number.

The
Mountain
View-based
tech
giant
is
also
making
it
more
difficult
for
malicious
actors
to
access
the
device
settings,
courtesy
of
added
authentication
requirements
for
actions
like
removing
SIM
or
turning
off
Find
My
Device.
If
multiple
failed
attempts
are
detected,
the
device
will
automatically
be
locked.

Google

also
emphasised
on
privacy
with
the
already-previewed
Private
Space
feature

private
space
for
users
to
store
their
private
information.
Users
will
be
able
to
add
another
layer
of
authentication
to
this
space
or
choose
to
hide
it
entirely
from
the
view.

For
foldable
devices
like
the
new

Google
Pixel
9
Pro
Fold
,
Android
15
will
allow
users
to
pin
or
unpin
the
taskbar
on
the
screen
for
easy
access.
They
can
customise
the
layout
of
the
page
and
keep
frequently
used
apps
within
quick
reach.
The
update’s
App
Pairing
feature
is
claimed
to
make
multitasking
easier
by
enabling
sharing
of
files
using
drag
and
drop.
Users
can
also
save
their
most
frequently
used
app
combinations
and
they
will
appear
as
a
single
app
icon
on
the
home
screen.

Android

on
Pixel
devices
such
as

low-light
conditions,

precise
control

camera
apps,

login
in
apps

apps

Wi-Fi
or
cellular
connection.

Samsung Leads the Charge in Global Phone Shipments in Q3 2024, Followed by Apple: Canalys

Global
smartphone
shipments
grew
5
percent
year-over-year
(YoY)
in
the
third
quarter
(Q3)
of
2024,
according
to
a
report
by
a
market
research
firm.

Samsung

maintained
its
position
as
the
original
equipment
manufacturer
with
the
highest
percentage
of
units
shipped,
whereas

Apple

and

Xiaomi

held
onto
their
rankings
from
the
last
quarter.
However,
all
three
of
them
registered
marginal
drops
in
the
market
share.
The
analysis
suggests
Vivo
also
recorded
a
positive
finish
to
the
quarter.

Global
Smartphone
Shipments
in
Q3
2024

A

report

by
market
analysis
firm
Canalys
reveals
Samsung
recorded
an
18
percent
share
in
smartphone
shipments
in
Q3
2024,
helping
it
achieve
the
top
spot.
The
South
Korean
technology
conglomerate
lost
a
three
percent
market
share
YoY.
The
same
goes
for
Apple,
which
registered
a
17
percent
market
share
in
this
quarter,
compared
to
its
18
percent
share
same
time
last
year.
The
iPhone
maker
finished
the
quarter
with
the
second
most
shipments.

As
per
Canalys,
this
is
Apple’s
third-highest
quarter
volume
to
date.
Some
contributing
factors
to
the
overall
growth
of
the
Cupertino-based
tech
giant
include
strong
demand
for
the

iPhone
15

series
and
previous
models.
The
analysis
emphasised
a
market
shift
towards
premium
devices,
especially
in
Apple’s
strong-hold
regions
like
Europe
and
North
America.
It
is
suggested
that
Apple’s
latest
smartphone
lineup

the

iPhone
16

series

may
not
only
help
it
to
a
strong
finish
in
Q4
2024
but
also
carry
the
moment
in
the
first
half
(H1)
of
2025.

Meanwhile,
Xiaomi
and
Oppo
grabbed
the
third
and
fourth
spots
on
the
list
with
14
and
nine
percent
market
shares,
respectively.
The
latter
was
helped
by
its
strong
performance
in
Indian
and
Latin
American
markets,
as
per
the
analysis.
Vivo
recorded
double-digit
growth
in
shipments
and
rounded
up
the
top
five,
finishing
with
a
nine
percent
market
share.

Canalys
reports
that
while
the
overall
market
conditions
are
improving,
the
demand
for
devices
remains
fragile.
This
is
due
to
global
challenges
including
demand
generation
and
regulatory
hurdles.

OnePlus, BOE, and Oppo to Unveil New OLED Display With DisplayMate A++ Rating on October 15

OnePlus
13

will
soon
hit
shelves
in
China
with
major
upgrades
over
the
OnePlus
12.
To
build
hype
around
the
launch,
the
Chinese
smartphone
brand
is
sharing
numerous
teasers
about
the
upcoming
phone
on
the
Web.
The
OnePlus
13
is
confirmed
to
feature
a
brand-new
X2
panel
from
BOE.
OnePlus
and
its
sister
company

Oppo

have
partnered
up
with
BOE
for
the
new
screen.
The
panel
has
supposedly
received
the
DisplayMate
A++
certification.
Oppo’s
Find
X8
is
also
expected
to
feature
the
same
display
panels.

OnePlus
13
Will
Utilise
New
BOE
Display

In
a
Weibo
post,
OnePlus

announced

that
it
will
unveil
a
new
display
in
partnership
with
BOE
on
October
15
at
2:00pm
(11:30am
IST).
The
latest
second-generation
Oriental
screen
has
supposedly
grabbed
DisplayMate
A++
certification
for
mobile
phone
screens.

OnePlus

claims
that
it
is
the
world’s
first
device
to
get
this
rating.
It
is
also
said
to
have
set
21
DisplayMate
records.
This
OLED
display
will
debut
in
OnePlus
13.

The
teaser
poster
shared
by
OnePlus
suggests
that
its
sister
firm
Oppo
will
be
part
of
the
announcement.
The
new
display
is
confirmed
to
bring
enhanced
brightness,
efficiency,
and
eye
protection.
