Apple Readying New Version of visionOS for Future AR Smart Glasses: Gurman

Apple started selling its first mixed reality headset Vision Pro in select global markets last year. The Cupertino giant is now believed to be on track to release smart glasses to expand its product portfolio in the augmented and mixed-reality space. A recent report by Bloomberg states Apple’s long-rumoured smart glasses are in the works. The company is said to be developing a new version of visionOS that is tailor-made for these glasses. Apple is anticipated to release other devices in the style of Vision Pro that it hopes will be cheaper and more enticing to consumers.

Apple Smart Glasses Are At Least Three Years Away

In the latest edition of his Power On newsletter, Mark Gurman claims that work on the AR glasses is ongoing at a secretive facility in Santa Clara, California. Apple is said to be working on a version of visionOS — the Vision Pro’s software — that will run on its smart glasses. The Vision Pro also runs on the same OS. Gurman notes that Apple is conducting user studies at its offices to gauge the appeal of features and interfaces alongside developing AR technology for future devices.

The Apple AR glasses will reportedly take three years or more to be ready. In the meantime, The iPhone maker is reportedly exploring other types of wearable products, including a rival to Meta’s Ray-Ban spectacles and even camera-equipped AirPods

According to Gurman, Apple had originally hoped to launch its AR spectacles as a follow-up to the Vision Pro, but the plan was dropped due to technical challenges.

Apple is not the only company working on smart glasses. Apple’s major rival Samsung also joined the race and announced its XR headset earlier this month. Meanwhile, Meta is eying to unveil its AR product named Orion by 2027. Google is developing an operating system specifically for headsets and glasses called Android XR.

Apple is expected to design AR glasses with broader mass-market appeal than the Apple Vision Pro. It unveiled the Vision Pro in 2023 at the Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC). The shipments began last year in select markets like the US, China, and Japan with a starting price tag of $3,499 (roughly Rs. 2,90,000). It is available in 256GB, 512GB, and 1TB storage configurations.

Samsung Teases XR Headset With Multimodal AI Capabilities, Smart Glasses at Galaxy Unpacked 2025

Samsung once again teased its upcoming extended reality (XR) headset, dubbed ‘Project Moohan’, this time at the Galaxy Unpacked 2025 event in San Jose, California on Wednesday. During the announcement, a silhouette of an XR headset graced the screen with an appearance remarkably similar to the Apple Vision Pro. While the South Korean technology conglomerate did not delve into any specifics, it reiterated that the headset will be powered by the Android XR operating system (OS), developed in collaboration with Google and Qualcomm.

Alongside the XR headset, the company teased that it might be developing another wearable in the form of smart glasses.

Samsung XR Headset, Smart Glasses Teased

At the Galaxy Unpacked 2025 event, Samsung teased that its XR headset will support multimodal artificial intelligence (AI) capabilities. With it, the company aims to change the way people “interact with the physical and digital world”. Subsequent visuals showed how users may be able to control the XR headset.

The Samsung wearable might get eye tracking capabilities similar to the Apple Vision Pro, which leverages a network of LEDs and infrared cameras that project invisible light patterns onto each eye, enabling the wearer to select elements just by looking at them. Additionally, they may also be able to control the XR headset using hand gestures as well as speech.

While this was the extent of the Samsung XR headset teaser, the company also hinted towards the potential development of a pair smart glasses. It emphasised how multimodal AI will “change” interaction with new form factors like XR devices. The visual showed the aforementioned XR headset along with a pair of smart glasses.

First announced in December 2024, Samsung’s ‘Project Moohan’ XR headset is speculated to come with multimodal input, state-of-the-art displays, and passthrough capabilities. The company says it will also offer support for Google’s Gemini AI assistant and will have apps optimised to run on a large, virtual display. It is confirmed to be the first offering in the market to be powered by the new Android XR OS and thus, may support several of its features including Circle to Search with gesture support, web browsing via Google Chrome, immersive views using Google Maps, and live translation of text seen within the wearer’s point of view.

I
noticed
no
difference
between

As
with
Series

the
new

is
snappy

Features
like

Apple

features

Now,

Apple
Watch
models
have
been
supporting
sleep
tracking
for
some
years,
but
the
addition
of
sleep
apnea
makes
it
more
capable.
How
does
it
function?
Apple
says
that
the
watch
uses
its
accelerometer
to
monitor
small
movements
at
the
wrist
during
sleep
that
are
associated
with
interruptions
in
normal
respiratory
patterns,
tracked
by
a
new
Apple

metric
called
Breathing

For
tracking
these
patterns,
you
will
have
to
wear
the
watch
regularly
at
night
for
at

7
days.

Apple
Watch
Series
10’s
biggest
strength
is
accurately
tracking
fitness-related
activities.
It
is
definitely
a
benchmark
for
other

segment.
It
is
SpO2

Apple

And
that’s
something
I

One
of

biggest
highlights
of
the
Apple

is
that
it

The

while
the

charges
up
to

percent
in
about

hour.

apple watch series 10 review10 sides apple-watch-series-10

It

Interestingly,
fast
charging
is
enabled
thanks
to
the
use
of
the
new
metal
back
of
the
Series
10,
which
now
accommodates
a
larger
and
more
efficient
charging
coil.
All
of
this
does
help
enhance
user
experience
on
the
Watch
Series
10.
Purely
in
terms
of
battery
performance,
the
Series
10
offered
me
roughly
20
hours
of
battery
life
on
a
single
charge.
After
this,
it
automatically
turned
on
Low
Power
Mode
at
15
percent.
Extended
workout
sessions,
including
outdoor
walks
and
running
sessions,
reduced
battery
life
to
18
hours.
The
smartwatch
reached
0
to
80
percent
in
about
30
minutes,
while
a
full
charge
takes
about
60
minutes.

In
my
tests,
Series
10
offers
an
incremental
battery
life
boost
compared
to
its
predecessor.

Apple
Watch
Series
10
Review:
Verdict

Apple
Watch
Series
10
may
not
have
introduced
groundbreaking
features
compared
to
the
Series
9.
But
it
doesn’t
need
to.
The
Series
9
is
already
a
solid
smartwatch,
and
its
successor
builds
on
its
strengths.
Faster
charging
makes
Series
10
a
stronger
smartwatch
option
for
consumers.
Moreover,
the
largest
display,
even
a
bit
bigger
than
the
Watch
Ultra
2,
makes
it
capable
of
packing
more
tricks.
The
company
has
also
raised
the
refresh
rate
on
the
Series
10
to
once
in
a
second
from
once
in
a
minute,
and
I
could
show
off
this
with
new
watch
faces
that
show
seconds
hand.

It
also
has
a
water
temperature
sensor
and
features
that
make
it
ideal
for
your
next
snorkelling
session

features
you
may
not
need
daily
but
are
always
good
to
have
on
board.
One
thing
that
surprised
me
is
that
Apple
forgot
to
put
a
decent
Apple
Intelligence
feature
for
the
Apple
Watch
Series
10.

Jet
Black

Who
should
buy
the
new
Series
10
smartwatch?
By
now,
Apple
devices
have
reached
a
point
that
users
are
not
required
to
update
every
year
and
comfortably,
they
can
jump
a
series
or
two
depending
on
their
use
case.
This
applies
to
Series
10
as
well.
If
you’re
someone
using
the
Apple
Watch
Series
8
or
9,
you
don’t
gain
a
lot.
However,
if
you
want
fast
charging
and
a
slightly
bigger
display,
then
Series
10
is
the
smartwatch
for
you.
However,
for
Series
7
or
6
users,
the
Series
10
is
an
excellent
upgrade.
Similarly,
for
people
who
want
to
take
a
leap
of
faith
and
start
using
an
Apple
Watch,
the
Series
10
is
the
company’s
best
Apple
Watch
model
yet.

For
alternatives,
the
Series
9
(Review)
is
a
good
option
alongside
the

Samsung
Galaxy
Watch
Ultra

(Review),
which
also
offers
some
additional
features.
